Today‘s English Version

God spoke, and these were his words: "I am the Lord your God

who brought you out of Egypt, where you were slaves.

     "Worship no god but me.

"Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or

on earth or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to

any idol or worship it, because I am the Lord your God and I

tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me

and on their descendants down to the third and fourth

generation. But I show my love to thousands of generations of

those who love me and obey my laws.

"Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the Lord your

God, will punish anyone who misuses my name.

"Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in

which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest

dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work-neither you,

your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who

     live in your country.

In six days I, the Lord, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and

everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That is

why I, the Lord, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.

"Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a

long time in the land that I am giving you.

     "Do not commit murder.

     "Do not commit adultery.

      "Do not steal.

      "Do not accuse anyone falsely.

"Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife, his

slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns."

 New King James Version

And God spoke all these words, saying: "I am the Lord your

God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the

       house of bondage.

"You shall have no other gods before Me.

"You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any

likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the

earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you

shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord

your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers

on the children to the third and fourth generations of those

who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who

love Me and keep My commandments. "You shall not take the

name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold

him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you

shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the S

abbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you,

nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor

your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is

within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens

and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the

seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and

      hallowed it.

"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be

long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

      "You shall not murder.

      "You shall not commit adultery.

      "You shall not steal.

"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

"You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet

your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female

servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your

        neighbor's."

Today‘s English Version

Happy are those who reject the advice of evil people, who do

not follow the example of sinners or join those who have no use

for God. Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,

and they study it day and night. They are like trees that grow

beside a stream, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose

leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do.

But evil people are not like this at all; they are like straw that

the wind blows away. Sinners will be condemned by God and

kept apart from God's own people. The righteous are guided

and protected by the Lord, but the evil are on the way to their

     doom.

New King James Version

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the

ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat

of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in

His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its

season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does

     shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind

drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the

judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For

the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the

     ungodly shall perish.

Today‘s English Version

The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need.

He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet

in the right paths, as he has promised.

Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be

     I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;

New King James Version

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want

Today‘s English Version

Lord, you have examined me and you know me. You know

everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts.

You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my

actions. Even before I speak, you already know what I will say.

You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your

power. Your knowledge of me is too deep; /it is beyond my

understanding. Where could I go to escape from you? Where

could I get away from your presence? If I went up to heaven,

you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you

would be there. If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the

farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you

would be there to help me.

New King James Version

O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my

sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought

afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are

acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my

tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have

hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot

attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee

from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If

I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the

wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the

      shall hold me.

Today‘s English Version

There will be no way for them to escape from this time of

trouble. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great

light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining

on them. You have given them great joy, Lord; you have made

them happy. They rejoice in what you have done, as people

rejoice when they harvest grain or when they divide captured

wealth. For you have broken the yoke that burdened them and

the rod that beat their shoulders. You have defeated the nation

that oppressed and exploited your people, just as you defeated

the army of Midian long ago. The boots of the invading army

and all their bloodstained clothing /will be destroyed by fire.

A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our

ruler. He will be called, "Wonderful Counselor," "Mighty God,"

      "Eternal Father," "Prince of Peace."

 New King James Version

Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed,

As when at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and

the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed

her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of

the  Gentiles. The people who walked in darkness Have seen a

great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of

death,  Upon them a light has shined. You have multiplied the

nation  And increased its joy; They rejoice before You

According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they

divide the spoil. For You have broken the yoke of his burden

And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in

the day of Midian. For every warrior's sandal from the noisy

battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning

      and fuel of fire.

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the

government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be

called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

      Prince of Peace.

Grass withers and flowers fade when the Lord sends the wind

New King James Version

Today‘s English Version

He strengthens those who are weak and tired. Even those who

are young grow weak; young people can fall exhausted.

But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength

renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and

not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.

New King James Version

He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might

He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be

weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,

      But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and

not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Today‘s English Version

Israel, the Lord who created you says, "Do not be afraid-I will

save you. I have called you by name-you are mine. When you

pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will

not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not

be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.

For I am the Lord your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves

you. I will give up Egypt to set you free; I will give up Ethiopia

and Seba. I will give up whole nations to save your life,

because you are precious to me and because I love you and

give you honor. Do not be afraid-I am with you! "From the

distant east and the farthest west I will bring your people

      home.

New King James Version

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He

     who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass

through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers,

they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire,

you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.

For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your

Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in

your place. Since you were precious in My sight, You have

been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men

for you, And people for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I

will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you
